About the Champion

As the Service Children’s Champion, I am dedicated to making sure Service children are seen, heard, understood, and celebrated—wherever they are in their journey.

My role exists to ensure that every child from an Armed Forces family feels supported through the unique challenges of military life: deployment, transition, separation, frequent moves, and everything in between. I work closely with schools, families, local authorities, and community organisations to create environments where Service children feel secure, confident, and proud of who they are.

 Who I Am

I’m Angela Campbell, and I have spent my career championing children, amplifying their voices, and building strong partnerships across education and the wider community. Working in North Yorkshire—home to one of the largest concentrations of Service families in the country—I have the privilege of supporting thousands of children every year.

My work brings together everything I care deeply about:

  • Advocating for Service children and their families
  • Strengthening understanding in schools and communities
  • Creating safe, inclusive spaces for children to connect
  • Building networks that support continuity of education and wellbeing
  • Celebrating the resilience, pride, and identity of Service life

Advocacy & Awareness

I raise awareness of the experiences of Service children across schools, local authorities, and community partners. By sharing stories, insights, and lived experiences, I help others understand the impact of military life and what children need to thrive.

National Collaboration

Beyond North Yorkshire, I work with councils and education teams across England to help shape and develop Service Children’s Champion roles, share best practice, and build a connected national network.

Why This Work Matters

Service children show extraordinary resilience—but resilience shouldn’t be something they have to “earn”. They deserve consistent support, understanding adults, and environments where their unique identity is recognised and valued.

Every conversation, every workshop, every school visit, every connection matters. Through our growing community of champions, advocates, educators, and families, we are building a system where Service children never feel invisible.

Support for Schools

I work directly with over 230 schools, providing:

  • CPD and training
  • Transition and deployment support
  • School visits and pupil voice activities
  • Resources to help staff understand Service life

My aim is to ensure every school feels confident and equipped to support their Service pupils.

Direct Support for Children & Families

From drop‑ins and workshops to one‑to‑one check‑ins, I offer safe, nurturing spaces where children can talk, share, create, and connect. Relationships are the heart of this role—and children always come first.

Events & Community Building

I coordinate and contribute to major events including:

  • Month of the Military Child
  • Armed Forces Day for Children
  • Festival of Remembrance
  • Service Children Awards
  • Creative workshops, art events, and community celebrations

These events help Service children feel proud of who they are and part of something bigger.

My Commitment

I am committed to:

  • Listening to Service children and championing their voices
  • Strengthening support in schools and communities
  • Providing high‑quality training and resources
  • Celebrating identity and building pride
  • Connecting partners locally and nationally
  • Creating opportunities for children to thrive

We are stronger together—and together, we can ensure every Service child feels supported, included, and understood.
