High‑quality training helps schools understand the unique experiences of Service children and equips staff with the skills and confidence to support them—especially during transitions, deployments, and times of emotional change. Our programme offers practical, engaging, and research‑informed sessions designed to strengthen school practice and build a network of confident, connected professionals.
We work closely with schools across North Yorkshire to provide CPD, resources, and ongoing guidance that help staff support Service pupils with empathy, insight, and consistency.
What we Offer
CPD for Educators
Our CPD sessions help teachers and support staff deepen their understanding of military life, its emotional cycle, and the impact of mobility and deployment on children. These sessions focus on practical classroom strategies, pastoral responses, and ways to build a supportive whole‑school culture.
We offer regular, ongoing CPD, ensuring staff feel confident responding to the needs of Service pupils all year round.
Workshops for Schools
We deliver a range of workshops tailored to the needs of staff, pupils, and wider school communities. These sessions may include:
Understanding the lived experiences of Service children
Strengthening pastoral systems
Supporting emotional wellbeing during deployments
Transition planning and best practice
Building pupil voice and confidence
Creating inclusive, Service‑aware school environments
Our workshops are hands‑on, reflective, and focused on real solutions for real challenges. Many sessions draw on insights from our work with more than 230 schools.
Service Children’s Network (SCN)
As part of our training offer, staff can join the Service Children’s Network, a growing community of Advocates and school leaders who attend termly meetings to share best practice, access new resources, and strengthen support systems within schools
Training for Service Children Advocates
We provide dedicated training for Service Children Advocates, giving them the tools, confidence, and year‑round support they need to champion the voice, wellbeing, and experiences of Service pupils within their school communities.
This includes CPD, templates, event support, and opportunities to connect with Advocates across the region.
Bespoke Support for Schools
Every school community is different. We are happy to tailor training and workshops to meet your specific needs—whether you are welcoming many new pupils mid‑year, planning a deployment support programme, preparing for Month of the Military Child, or strengthening your overall provision.
Why Our Training Matters
Service children thrive in schools where staff:
- Understand the emotional and practical challenges of military life
- Recognise the signs of stress around transitions and deployments
- Use consistent pastoral approaches
- Create opportunities for children to share their voice
- Foster connection, belonging, and stability
Our training helps staff develop these skills and embed them into everyday practice—creating environments where Service children feel seen, supported, and celebrated.
