Service Children’s Promise

A Promise to North Yorkshire’s Service Children and Young People

North Yorkshire is proud to be home to many families connected to the Armed Forces—and even prouder of the children and young people who walk through our school gates each day carrying unique stories, strengths, and experiences.

The Service Children’s Promise is a heartfelt commitment to those young people. It’s shaped by their voices, their challenges, and their hopes—shared openly and honestly during “The Big Conversation.” From missing loved ones during special occasions, to settling into yet another new school, their stories remind us why tailored support truly matters.

This school year, we’re putting the Promise front and centre. It’s our shared pledge to:

Ensure service-connected pupils feel welcomed, understood, and proud of their identity

Support smooth school transitions and recognise the emotional impact of deployment and mobility

Provide safe spaces, key adults, and opportunities for pupils to express themselves

Equip educators and professionals with the tools and training to offer meaningful support

Celebrate the Month of the Military Child and other initiatives that shine a light on service life

Through collaboration with schools, advocates, families, and organisations across North Yorkshire, we’re turning these commitments into everyday actions—because every service child and young person deserves to be seen, heard, and valued.
