Lucy Pittaway – All Together Now

In April 2024, to mark the Month of the Military Child, Service Children’s Champion proudly partnered with acclaimed Yorkshire artist Lucy Pittaway for a deeply moving creative collaboration. Hosted at Risedale School in North Yorkshire, this special workshop brought together 100 service children from 10 schools across the region to celebrate their resilience, identity, and shared experiences.

Each child recreated a small, abstract element inspired by Lucy Pittaway’s vibrant and emotive artwork. These individual canvases were then assembled into a stunning collective masterpiece—an evocative floral composition symbolising the strength, unity, and spirit of military children.

The event was more than just a workshop—it was a joyful afternoon filled with storytelling, laughter, and reflection. As one teacher beautifully put it, “It was a wonderful afternoon filled with stories, laughter, and a chance for the children to reflect on their unique strengths.”

The final artwork was unveiled at the Service Children’s Awards at Tennants in Leyburn and featured at the Festival of Remembrance at Ripon Cathedral in November2024. The piece was also exhibted at Lucy Pittaway’s York and Brompton on Swale galleries, offering the public a chance to witness the power of young voices expressed through art.

This project stands as a testament to the creativity and courage of military children, and to the power of art in building connection and community.

We are deeply grateful to Lucy Pittaway for her generosity, creativity, and heartfelt commitment to this project, which gave military children a powerful platform to express themselves through art.
